Through the 1970's and 80's Australian clothing manufacture was largely moved overseas.
Since then, production and manufacturing of clothing in Australia has only occurred on a very small scale, usually as a part of local business ventures or for bespoke pieces.
The move to offsite manufacturing has resulted in a disconnect between Australian designers and their product, a reduction in the quality of the garments that we have access to, and a gradual loss of the skills required to create high quality clothing.
However, as society becomes more educated on the standards and processes involved in creating clothing, a growing number of people are choosing to shop in businesses that are transparent about their production methods or from local vendors.
